The New Currency of Value

The New Source Of Value

Back in the day, the value of a man was mostly about his capacity to provide.

Having a good job, could allow his wife to stay at home, and his social standing.

This was the mark of a valuable man, and it still is in many ways.

However in today’s society it’s pretty easy to have all of this, and not actually be a valuable person.

How is this?

In our new world, a man’s presence, his depth of awareness— is his most valuable asset.

The more present you are, the more you have to give, and the more capacity you have to receive.

I recently was thinking about how the only time and place that you are useful to yourself and others is when you are in the here and now.

Really think about that.

The more present that you are, the more useful you are.

Most people get taken away from the present moment because of worry about the future or grieving of the past.

However the act of worry is so contradicting because the reason your worrying is that you are unsure of what will happen right?

Well guess what, the only thing you can ever do to impact a situation is:

What you can, with what you have, Right now. That’s it. Nothing else.

Seems simple, and it is.

But you won’t be aware of what you truly have to work with and what you can do with it if your not aware of the moment you are physically living in.

Sometimes the only thing you can do in a moment of disaster is to take a deep breath, and smile.

If the how is not presenting itself right then, don’t force it.

instead immerse yourself even more in the present moment and do something that will take your mind off of the subject.

I don’t mean consuming content or drowning the emotion with substance either.

This will actually take you away from the present moment, not enhance it.

You should only do things that will enhance your presence, not remove it.

Some ideas for things you can do that will immerse you in the present moment are:

  • Go for a walk.

  • Do the dishes or clean.

  • Bake some bread

  • Do some stream of thought journaling

  • Go water your plants

  • Meditate

  • Stare at a wall

    (All of these things are meant to be done individually by themselves, dont try to multitask or listen to music or audios while your doing them. Multitasking is the ultimate enemy of true presence)

These are just some of the things that I do.

This week, practice being aware of everything in the present moment.

Listen… Look, and listen.
